Here is the time allowed for the two Papers of the CXC CSEC English A exam. Here we also give you some suggestions on how to manage your time in the exam room

Paper 1

Time allowed: 1 hour 30 minutes.
Note: The time allowed for this exam paper
in minutes = 90 minutes.
This mean that you have 90 minutes to complete 60 multiple choice questions.

Paper 2

Time allowed: 2 hours 40 minutes.
Notes: The time allowed for this exam paper
in minutes = 160 minutes.
This means that you have 160 minutes to plan and write 5 essay answers.

Time management in the English A exams

Paper 1

Given that you have 90 minutes to answer 60 multiple choice questions, this gives you an average time of 1 1/2 minutes to read and answer each question.
You will need to budget your time accordingly.

Paper 2
We have revised our time management table for the CXC CSEC English A exam, paper 2  to keep more closely to the suggested time that CXC gives on its exam paper to answer each section. Here is CXC's recommended time to answer each section in paper 2 of the English A exam.

There is one little issue however.

With its suggested time, CXC does not give any suggestions about how to allocate time for checking answers at the end of the exam or writing quick essay
points or outlines at the start of the exam (while your mind is still fresh).

So we do that work for you. We take CXC' s suggested time for each section, adjust it
to leave time for quick essay poins at the start of the exam and answer checking at the end of the exam and come up with our suggested time to answer each section.

So in the table below you will find CXC's suggested time to answer each section, our suggested time to answer each section and how much each section is worth in marks.You can use this table to make your own assessment and your own decison on how you will allocate your time in the exam.
