CXC CSEC Social Studies exam guide

Based on the CXC CSEC Social Studies syllabus (effective May/June 2010)

Organization of the CXC CSEC Social Studies exam:

In-school exam candidates: The general proficiency exam consists of two (2) papers and a School Based Assessment (SBA) project.

Private exam candidates: The general proficiency exam consists of three (3) exam papers.

Paper	Exam time	Question type	Exam marks	Exam percent
paper 1	1hr 15 mins	Multiple choice (60 questions) 30 questions on section A 30 questions on section B	60 marks	30%
Paper 2	2 hrs 30 mins	An essay paper made up of 10 questions in three sections. You must answer five questions. Section A – This section consists of three questions. You must answer two questions. Each question is divided into a number of parts. Your responses should be the form of short answers. All short answers must written in complete sentences. Section B – This section consists of four questions. Two questions on Development and Use of Resources (part 1) Two questions on regional integration (part 2) You are must answer two questions. One on Development and Use of Resources. One on Regional integration. Your responses should be written in the form of short answers and extended essays. Section C - This section consists of three questions. One from each of the three options: Communication Consumer Affairs Tourism You must answer one question from this section. The total marks for the 5 questions in paper 2 is 100 marks.	100 marks	50%
SBA		A School-Based Assessment (SBA) component comprising an individual report on a group or (SBA) individual project	40 marks	20%
Paper 3/2	1 hr 30 mins	Alternative to the SBA (for private candidates): a third exam paper consisting of 5 structured questions based on a research activity.	40 marks	20%
		Total	200 marks	100%

The syllabus for the Social Studies exam is divided into three (3) sections.

Two sections are divided into subsections. All are listed below:

Please note: exam candidates must study at least one option in detail.

30%+50%+20%+20% equal to 120%. And how come a whole percentage is equal to 120% it suppose to be equal to 100%.

Its either an SBA worth 20%

Its either an SBA worth 20% or the 3/2 paper that worth 20%. If you are in school you will have to submit an SBA.... Private candidates have to do the 3/2 paper

So its 100% and not 120%

Hi,

I can try to get the other sections for the CXC CSEC Social Studies exam guide posted as soon as possible. However, we will not be supporting CXC CSEC modern languages or CXC CSEC Home Economics at any time, so we will not be posting exam guides for those subjects.

In your social textbook it has a section on that. SO the topics needed to discuss are a subheading in that chapter.
